Lobby & Advocacy : Oleg Efrim: Certain political forces, as well as particular church representatives, have distorted the message of anti-discrimination law
- Currently, Government is getting ready to forward the anti-discrimination bill to Parliament which was withdrawn from it a year ago. The bill is heavily criticized by certain representatives of church, as well as by particular political forces.
Lobby & Advocacy : Members of Parliament were handed in a copy of the Bible. Some of them were lucky enough to get it from gay socialists
Today, prior to the parliament sitting, members of the Young Guard, a youth group within the Party of Socialists, were handing in copies of the Bible to Members of Parliament with the appeal “We demand protection of Christian values”, conveys eNews.md.
Lobby & Advocacy : “Try to call me a homosexual…” Letter from a former Balti city councilor’s son
After the City Council of Balti had adopted the decision “On proclaiming Balti a zone for support of the Moldovan Orthodox Church and prohibition of the aggressive propaganda of non-traditional sexual orientations”, almost each day Moldova’s mass media write, talk and show reports on how this news was received by the public. Sometimes feedback from members of the LGBT community appears in newspapers and TV programs. Thus, the Balti-based newspaper “SP” published opinion of a former city councilor’s son among others. We post it below.
Lobby & Advocacy : Emergence from the Moldovan ‘Closet’ is difficult and risky
In a post-communist country, where some people have a quite conservative viewpoint it is quite difficult to “come out of the closet.” The small Eastern European Republic of Moldova is presently looking forward to joining the European Union one day. The acquis communautaire has yet to be implemented, but Moldova backs off from implementing the first requirement of the criteria which refers to ensuring “the stability of institutions guaranteeing democracy, the rule of law, human rights including respect for and protection of minorities.”
Lobby & Advocacy : The triumph of law: the attacker of a homosexual convicted for 5 years
Two years after a gay man had been attacked and robbed court decided that the attacker must be strictly punished. The convicted Eduard Mitrofanov was bound to pay the victim moral and material damages in the amount of 10 thousand lei, as well as he was sentenced to five years in prison.
Lobby & Advocacy : Moldova is against “aggressive propaganda of homosexuality”
The City Council of Moldova’s city of Balti has declared it territory “a zone of particular support of Moldovan Orthodox Church” which stipulates, among others, complete prohibition of the “imposed by Moldova’s central authority aggressive propaganda of non-traditional sexual orientation”.
Lobby & Advocacy : Forgotten lessons: Chisinau pogroms of 6 – 7 April
Today, the Communist Party is setting the fire that will be hard to extinguish. In the toughest economic and socio-political conditions, hatred against any social group flashes instantly. And those who governed eight years cannot but know this. If they know this and, being members of parliament or a city council, continue their dark deeds with the knowledge of act, then it is a crime that law-enforcement bodies of Moldova must pay attention to.
Lobby & Advocacy : Statement by Ombudsman Tudor Lazar on discriminatory initiative by City Council of Balti concerning LGBT people
I have reiterated on numerous occasions, like other forms of discrimination and intolerance, such as racism, xenophobia, islamophobia or anti-Semitism, homophobia is inacceptable in a democratic state, the one of law, where human dignity, rights and freedoms represent supreme values and are guaranteed.
Lobby & Advocacy : Lacking anti-discrimination law, will you be able to adapt to the situation when you belong to a minority?
Periodically, Moldovan mass media raise issue of sexual minorities. However, unfortunately, various talk show guests – with politicians and civil servants being among them – often use the issue to insult somebody displaying their negative attitude towards homosexuals in general.
Lobby & Advocacy : NIT TV Channel Promotes Hatred in Favour of Political Games
In the evening of 30 November, the NIT channel news blocks aired a very long (which is already surprising) reportage allegedly in defense of ‘Eurasian moral values’ and against ‘corrupting influence’ of European Union and homosexualism. The voiceover, accompanying shots of exalted people dressed in Halloween outfits (as I understand, these are gays themselves by default), is telling that the anti-discrimination law is a promotion of European values in the form of amoral and, contrary to our society, homosexualism, and that the governing Alliance wants to deceptively push through this law which will protect homosexuals despite the fact that there exist more important problems in our country than discrimination.
